along with alot of other parts.i replaced my oil pump.i got my truck running went down the road and in less than 15 miles the new pump goes out and destroys my motor.i contacted the manafactour and they said to take back to store and file a parts and labor claim.has anyone ever done this?and if so how was your outcome?
what other parts and what was the reason for replacing the oil pump? how did you determine it was the oil pump failure that caused your motor to be destroyed??
the origanl pump went out so i pulled the motor and changed everything in it.the drive shaft for the pump is twisted in half and the pump will not turn.so i figured that the pump locked up.
Take lots of pictures, video if need be if you find the new pump locked up. Pics of damages, etc. Note who you talk to on the phone, when you called, etc.
Leave a paper trail of EVERYTHING. Prices of rebuilding a new engine, etc.

Well, there are only a couple of issues that can cause it to lock up:
1. Debris in the pump gears
2. Failure of the gears or meshed surfaces
3. Faulty oil pump drive rod
You'll need documentation to substantiate your claim. I'd contact the store for directions on how to proceed.. Get their names and employee numbers and have them attest to their directions/procedures. Take many digital pictures as proof. Maybe even have them open it up with you directly observing... try to avoid the "he said/she said" scenario.
Why didn't the distributor gear roll pin sheer off? If the oil pump locks up, the pin should sheer so that the camshaft can keep spinning. Then the engine shuts off because the distributor doesn't move anymore. When you say you "changed everything" in the motor are you saying you did a full proper and machined rebuild?
Don't hold your breath with regard to getting this resolved. The manufacturer is going to blame you as much as you're going to blame them. You have no way to prove that it was the actual pump that failed; something could have gotten drawn into the pump. Again, it's very odd that the pump would lock and the motor would twist the shaft before sheering the roll pin. No company is going to front you hundreds of dollars because you are blaming them; that's just how the world works.
yes it was a proper rebuild.i used the old pickup tube but was cleaned and no holes in screen.and i know they'll blame me i was just trying to find out if anyone had a similar sitiation and how they faired.

For what its worth, Steve Christ in his manual on rebuilding Fe engines, recommended replacing the oil pump drive when doing a rebuild, noting that if it fails, your screwed
the shaft failed but only after it twisted almost half way round.dont know if theres any difference except length of them for the different ford engines.but mine is a 351 cleveland.
