As ive been driving my truck and go over a bump or sometimes even turning the steering wheel, there is a loud clunk noise from the bed of truck. It sounds like something is falling or and i checked underneath to see if something is hanging and couldnt find anything. What could this be?
I don't know if this is causing your problem or not but I had a similar situation many years ago. Check the plastic bushings in the tailgate hinges. Sometimes they wear out or crack and break apart. then the tailgate has a lot more room to move around. Good luck.
This sounds scary but it happened to me on my 92 F150: I would hear some loud banging and never knew what it was, the truck also shook a bit. It would come and go around corners or over bumps, but it wasn't predictable.
Then one day it caused a MAJOR issue. What was happening was I had some lug bolts sheer off (yes, break). Of the 5 lug bolts, the first one broke and fell out in the road. I never saw this because I had a center cover over the lug bolts. The second bolt broke and I think the third one just after...that is when I had the MAJOR issue and had to get a tow.
Obviously I am lucky nothing more happened to me. Was an easy fix and hasn't happened since.
Here's a long shot but how about checking the bed bolts? If they're loose, particularly the ones closest to the cab, they'll 'bump' every time the body flexes.
