Ok I was reading posts about fabricating some sort of roof rack for our beloved Broncos. I was wondering if it would be possible to make some sort of tie down system that was bolted into the hardtop where the hard top connects to the body.
Basically having 2-3 heavy duty straps on either side that would attach to a clip that was bolted down under the roof. Then you could attach those straps to the rack in some fasion then attach what ever you want to the rack. The rack could be eaisly removable by loosening the tie downs.
Do you guys think it would be possible to rig some sort of clip for the straps that could go under the roof and not cause leaking or safety problems?
Just a crazy little idea I had, input would be greatly appreciated.
For it not to leak, it would be best for it to be continuous all the way down the bedrail with a few eyes sticking out, so the foam seal wouldn't have to make the transition at each edge of each clip. Why not just do this? The crossbars are removeable, and the rails keep the roof from whipping in crosswinds. For more pics, click my signature link and look in the 83 Bronco album.
