Thought I should start a new thread for an unrelated issue with some leakage I seem to be having.
Noticed after a long trip home and a few days of quick sprints around town I had a lot of fluid in the driveway. Threw a cardboard box under to catch some and it is puddled up Red.
I can see fluid all around the outer edge of the pan and it is wet to the touch. It drips right off the center low point however and is not "dripping" from the edges.
I tightened all the bolts but noticed one was "secure" but not "tight" and wouldn't tighten up much more. This also seems to be the place from where the most fluid is built up around the edge.
I guess I give it a day or two with the tightened bolts then on to a gasket? Anything else I should check?
I should also mention I cannot start it for a few days until i figure out whats up with the fuel pump/no gas getting to the engine. (in another thread)
well crap, no i did not use a torque wrench. did i screw the pooch? can i loosen and then tighten to spec or have i given this gasket the final deathblow?
Get a new gasket and make sure none of the bolts are stripped. You shouldnt really need a torque wrench for this, just dont tighten them like a gorilla.
I'd also suggest that you look at the pan and remove any dimples around the bolt holes that may have been caused by over tightening in the past. I use an inverted socket of the appropriate size and lightly tap the metal around the bolt holes. I was taught that by an old Ford mechanic (who just happened to be my father).
