I would never run any type of power adder with stock pistons. There are a few comanies out there that make good custom forgings for the 410. Ross Pistons is one of them. TRW makes a good forging and can be ordered through summitracing for the 428 only. I'm not sure how much boost you will be able to get away with and still have a reliable street engine. You are going to spend a minimum of 600 bucks for the 410 pistons. The 428 will be a little cheaper. Are you planning on boring out the 390 that far?
You can also get forged pistons for the 390 @ Summit. I couldn't find them in the catalog but if you call them, Speed Pro makes them. Here is the part number for the forged flat top pistons .030 over: TRW-L2291F30.
I don't think you want flat top pistons for a supercharger, but you may be able to find what you are looking for if you call.
I am goin to try and find either a 406 or 428 bare block. I have the 428 crank already; I could drop it into another 390 as well. I am just thinking ahead to my next project. I may still drop the supercharger on my current 390 just for kicks.
Will Edlebrock's aluminum heads handle the power of a supercharger?
The edel heads will do just fine. Good point Giddie up. Flat tops probably are a bad idea. I bought my L2291F60s from summit. You have to gring them down to use them with a 410 crank though.
This particular piston would require a decking of .116" to become the right height for a 410 replacement. CD for the L2291F is 1.776". While a 410 piston (381P) is a 1.660" CD. I'd guess about 8.5:1 with the edel heads.
