I have a 92 f150 with a 351. I was wondering if i took the 2 cats off would this effect my o2 sensor? or would i have to mess with the o2 computer? Anything would be helpful
Should work just fine. I just recently did it to my 92 4.9 6cyl. I hear some of the real late model stuff has 2 sensors, one before and one after the converter to prevent removal. But shouldn't be a problem for your year. Unless you're looking for a real clean look, you might want to just remove the cats and knock the guts out then re-install them. It'd mean less fabrication work for you. Just make sure you get it all out so it doesn't come out later and plug up the muffler.
Don't know about Ford, but many Chevy owners use O2 sensor simulators to replace the O2 sensors when they disable this part of the smog system. Basically they are screwin plugs that I think have a certain resistor value which tricks the computer into thinking the O2 is still there.
I have a 93 F-150 5.0 that I took the cats and manifolds off of a few years ago and put headers, true duals w/flowmasters on.I put the o2 sensor into the collector.I cut the mounting pipe out of the exhaust pipe and mig welded it into the collector.Still works fine.I had to lengthen the wires though.
