So I now have the last piece of the drive line in place . I had a one piece drive shaft made up to replace the original two piece unit on the advice of the guys at the driveline shop here in town .More money but not a lot considering three u joints new steady rest bearing and half of the slip yolk assm. ( it was seized ) .
That's looking great! For your next order of business, you might consider replacing the muffler bearing, too. Unless, of course, that angle provides a little more forward force, like jet propulsion.
I may have to but I hate to part with an original component . But seriously I have a set of header extension tubes coming from Reds Headers and i purchased locally a set of walker mufflers from NAPA that are for an 86 Ford areostar mini van .
Just as an aside here is a picture of an areostar muffler ,it's a good visual replacement for the original and only 28.00 dollars with a 5 year warranty ..
Often overlooked or put off, but if you have ever been stuck along side the road with a driveshaft dragen on the ground or worse, lets just say you made a good investment.
Did the glass pak thing when I was young . Drove Mom and Dad crazy and developed a close relationship with law enforcement (Mounties) .Don't feel like going back there , I think these should have a nice rumble .

HA HA! That would have been nice (just draggin) when i tossed a rear joint in a '71 F100 I had I had to do a 200 yard hike back to pick it up off the road. It just spit it right out the back at 50 mph! The biggest reason fora driveshaft loop is so you don't pogo-stick your vehicle when you blow a front u-joint. So when you install the loop it needs to be toward the front of the shaft anyways.

I'm thinking some diesel and a match will make it sound better!
I'll bet that nobody here's ever run a garden hose up hot cherry bombs to shatter the fiberglass.
Safety loop is cheap. Rolling a truck or even just jumping to either side by a full lane or more due to front u-joint failure is real expensive. Long, solid driveshaft can be a pogo stick on a very bad day. I make a sturdy loop for all of mine. I had a bad, bad experience in a car at (thankfully) fairly low speed years ago!
