Ok guys, I have a 4.9 on the engine stand and a cloyes timing set ready to go on. My question is what is the stock intake lobe centerline angle for me to shoot for on the degree wheel? Ive read alot about advancing the stock cam but cant find what that stock intake centerline angle is to determine if it is straight up, retarded or advanced. Im using the .050 on either side of max lift method added together and divided by two to get the centerline. I think i just need the stock specs including the intake centerline and work from there. Ill keep everyone posted on the results. Thanks.
Ok got it. Intake centerline is 108 degrees and exhaust is 114 degrees. Now I can tell where straight up is versus advancsd and retarded. Now Im on a mission...
ok, disregard last post. After a long education with a degree wheel, I now know where the straight up position for the stock cam should be verses advanced or retarded. Im installed straight up and anxious to see what it does.
I think so. The engine runs much smoother and idles at 22 inches of vacuum. It also isnt as fuel hungry as with the isky cam for the same power. It is nice to not hear that awful rattling sound coming from under the timing gear cover with the cheapo Advance auto timing gears. The Cloyes set is definately the way to go.
The big test will be in Feb. when it gets an emissions test here in the **** state of NJ.
