rebuild or replace???
alright about 4 months ago the EFI I6 in my 1990 f150 4x4 blew.
the radiator got packed with mud and they kept driving it on the highway till it over heated and blew a hole in the radiator (and i believe blew the motor as well )then towed it home.(there was not oil on the ground or anything so thats y im a little confused about what happend to the motor.
the next day i went to start it and the starter just strained. towed it to my uncles and he pulled apart said water and mud were in the cylenders it was locked up and pretty much need a new motor.
so now i have a little money and want to get her goin again.
option 1:
should i have them rebuild the motor and add cam, headers, MSD etc. that i want to add
option 2
perfered option at this point)should i trade in the core for a remanufactured for about $600 have it installed and the cam headers and ignition switched on the new?
i would be greatfull for any and all input on this topic, i am only 17 so i do realize there is stuff here im probably not considering. and some ideas on prices too.
P.S. i will probably install the headers and MSD myself but my need help with the cam.
thanks,
Bruno
Otherwise, I'd go with a long block with a decent warranty from a reputable national parts store and swap everything over.
What probably happened was the engine got so hot it siezed up. Then coolant ran in from either a cracked casting or a blown head gasket.
they said it wouldnt open up had serious power loss and then a load pop and white smoke everywhere i couldnt find anything leaking from anywhere on the actual motor just the fluid from the rad.
