Okay guys, I've already sat through all of the different exhaust sound clips they're not necessarily the clearest to hear due to the distortion on the mic and I'm just looking for specific answers not a flame thread.
What is your opinion on the sound of a 300 with straight pipe exhaust with no cats? Also, What in your opinion does it sound like at idle and what does it sound like when revved.
Okay, ultimately I'm trying to get it to sound more like a 12v cummins because I have heard through the grapevine that they sound similiar to that. Anyone know if that's true?

With the right cam it sounds more like an old Detroit Diesel then it does a cummins.
I have true dual straightpipe. I hate it, but I am not finished. I have many different styles I have to experiment with. Currently, everybody who hears it says it sounds like a Diesel and a tractor making sex and then climaxing into a Civic.

Andrew James,

I readily admit to being "old fashioned" and if the moderator thinks I am out of line, I will hear from him.
Good day and please continue to participate in our forum. It is a great place to share ideas.

I'm going to have to second this and I'm not old fashioned: This forum simply isn't the place for language like this. However, please continue with your contributions as all of us have something we know that could help others out.
Okay guys, let's stop beating the poor guy up. Was it a bad choice of words? Yes, was it still accurate? Yes (IMHO), was it absolutely hilarious? YES. Straight pipes on an inline six will sound like a tractor and then a ricer no matter what you do. You're better off with a good turbo muffler with a couple of free flowing chambers. If need be put a resonator in the system to get a little more tone. The fewer the cylinders the more 'ricey' it's going to sound.
I believe you can still get a good sound out of a inline 6. Nice exhaust system combined with a mild cam. As I said earlier, searching YouTube, I found several chips of ford inline 6's that sounded very good.
A 6 cylinder is never going to sound like a V8. If a person wants an exhaust that sounds like a v8 I suggest they mount a v8 in front of that exhaust system. If you want it to sound like a diesel then swap in a diesel!
A 300 is going to have it's own sound. If you don't like the sound either throw on some quiet mufflers or swap out engines.
I personally think a built 240/300 with performance exhaust is some sweet music!!

Open manifold on my truck sounded like a big block v8 crossed with a tractor. I loved the way it sounded but I didn't like the fumes. I wish I could get it to sound like that with the exhaust going out the back.
There are a couple trucks with open headers in the exhaust sound clip thread that sounds just like mine did, but the video is still distorted in the sound department.
