I hear that DC is already gearing up to make replacement cab supports, cab corners, and inner fenders for these.

Who is going to be the first to make up a simple wiring harness for LED headlights and tail lights?

Lets hope it is early '15, there has been a lot of interest in this never before released body style in 1/25 scale. Why AMT never released it in the early 70's have had a lot of modelers puzzled, they were doing the C series and Lousivilles during this era, and we all know pickups were much more popular in sales to the general public than commercial vehicles.

When you look at the judgement involved in what they did release(the goofy looking extended wheelbase 73-79 pickup) you might be forgiven for wondering...
Last update I heard on the '71 was mid to late first quarter

Production is slated to begin on the 28th of this month (that's four days from now as I type this), and they should start shipping out two weeks after that. So... look for these on the shelves in late May/early June.

To whet your appetite, here's the finalized test shot. I built this in January for a review in Model Cars Magazine- at that time the box art, decals, and instruction sheet were still in development.

The kit comes with stock wheels (and the Ranger XLT covers) or the five-spoke mags I used on it.

I used some printed Goodyear white letter tires from AMT, just because I liked the look.

Here are the stock wheels/wheel covers/tires in the kit. I painted the scuff band for a narrow whitewall look.

If you look at the last two photos, you'll see that the wing vent post doesn't touch the top of the door frame. That's my fault- not the kits- I somehow managed to break off the end, and never got around to fixing it before I took the pictures.

It's the best-fitting kit I've ever built- the side spears don't have any positive means of location, but you should be able to figure it out. The windshield is a tight fit- I had to fiddle with it for a bit before it would go in, but the upside is that the fit is so tight you won't need glue.

The second version will be a '69 short Styleside. They plan on doing at least one example from each Bumpside model year.

Yup very nice over all, but the hood FORD letters look out of scale size to me.

So cool!! I can't wait to see if they do a '72!

I agree the hood Ford letters look a little big, but that is easily fixed, nice looking kit! Excited!

How detailed is the engine?

The engine for the '71 long box is a very nicely detailed 390 with chrome valve covers and, I believe, 390 GT exhaust manifolds (at least they were in the test shot I built). The cool thing about these releases is that the '69 short box comes with a 240/300 straight six.

Yep, the '71 has a very nicely done FE. I don't recall what kind of manifolds it had.

The early test shots had a Dana axle, but the finalized test shot (and thus the production kit) will have a 9". The pumpkin is a little round compared to a real one, but I honestly don't think any kit manufacturer has gotten the 9" perfectly right.

I don't care- I'm buying a couple dozen of each version.

I'll buy 2 of the 68's. One I'll build as a "before". And one of it when I get it painted, etc.
