with the tempture droping id like to get this problem fixed its way over due.
The tempture is about 50-60 degreese i turn the key to let the glow plugs warm up and i just get some smoke, I turn the key back and forth a few times to let it warm up longer but still nothing.
i hop out bypass the glow plug Solenoid with a screwdriver and she fires right up.
I dont have this problem with it pluged in.
The Solenoid was replaced about 9 months ago.
Go to the link in my signature and order that relay. I had to fabricate a piece of metal and bend it 90 degrees for a bracket to mount it to but it is rated at 200 amps and continuous duty instead of intermittent duty which means a larger contact surface area and less likely to go bad.
I think I paid 69$ for two of them shipped. I am keeping one on the shelf because I always like to keep a spare. The item price is 28$ but you have shipping also.

Reason: More info
Get a little plug in digital volt meter that plugs in to the cig port from Wally world.
1) It will tell you the start state of your batts (12.5 v)....
2) It will tell you if the Glow Plug Relay comes on (drops to 11.5v)
(note truck needs at least 10.5v to start)
3) It will tell you when the GPR shuts off (voltage will start to rise slowly)
4) It will tell as the tuck is running and the GPR is shut off the output of the Alt.
(Alt shout be around 14.3 v((around)) output.
When all info looks good put meter away in console.
Since u seem to have issues periodically with your GPR, you may benefit by adding the Glow plug led.
Its simple and will let you know when your glow plugs are not coming on. With the LED in the cab, you can look and instantly see if the GPR is functioning.
Here is a really good writeup on it with pictures.
