Ok, winter is on it's way and I am in need of a lockout for my truck. I'm shopping around and the parts stores are ranging from $230-$350 and Ford wants $360. This is for one of course. I was looking online at Warn hubs and they come in a set of two for around $220. What am I missing here? I am utterly confused by this difference in price. Can anyone give me a little insight on this and why anyone wouldn't go for the Warn lockouts. Does anyone have the Warns? If so how hard was the install and are they worth it? I have a 99 F350 SRW CC 4x4 LB 7.3
I really don't need to replace both of them but one side is missing completely. If I can get two for cheaper than one I have absolutely no heart burn with going aftermarket. For those of you who have gone with warn do you by chance have part numbers if it's the same vehicle. That might come in handy if I have to visit the local parts store and the drones working there have to look it up in the system. Maybe they won't have to ask me if I have AC or not to find the hubs.
My next question I guess is what spline do I have? Does anyone know right off the top of their head or know how I can find out without actually counting?
A couple of years ago I replaced my hubs with Mile Marker hubs. I got them from Summit racing, at that time they were on sale for $99 for the set. I checked their website and I think I got the 449SS but I am not totally sure. They are now listed for $165. The Mile Marker website says that you need a conversion kit but for some reason I don't think I need it for my truck. You will have to do some research to double check about the kit. Mile Marker might not be the best out there but for what I need them for (no off roading, just need 4 wheel drive for snowy days and the occasional muddy dirt road) and the price, they were perfect for me.
The Warn are a little nicer than the MileMarker, but the $100 price was hard to beat. I have been happy with them. There may be other web sites that still have them for close to $100, rather than $165.
And for my final question. Is there any kind of adapter or installation kit that I am going to need for the warn hubs or will they drop in right out of the box?
You won't need anything special to install the Warns, I think it took me all of about 15 mins per side. Much better quality in my opinion than the stock auto lock hubs too.
