Alright guys, so since cold weather is coming, errr already here I should say, I have a good question.
I have 2 300's, an 89 and a 94.
Both start exactly the same, cold, they crank for a second and fire up.
Now a friend of mine, has an 88 E150 van with a 300, and no matter cold or hot, his literally fires off instantly. Like just turn the key on....then give it a flick down to start, release it right away, and it fires up instantly!
If I do that on either one of mine, they won't start.
Why does his start so quickly and not mine 2?
All 3 of these 300's all have fresh tune ups! My friend said that van has always started like that since hes had it, for 2 years now. Tune up was done by PO.
All 3 of 'em crank at the same speed to! What gives? Timing?
It is a common fallacy to think that all 300s (or any other engines) are exactly alike...they aren't. Even two engines built to the exact same specifications on the same day with consecutive serial numbers will not necessarily perform the same. There is no answer as to "why" this is so.
Well I did some reading on that famous "6L tune up" witch includes a timing bump for abit more power and mpg, but it also takes some high performance parts to do so (so i've heard).
But the van was tuned up using Motorcraft parts, as so as my 2 300's.
I don't know, it's little details like that that bothers me sometimes, my 2 300's are the only ones that don't fire right off. They both run absolutely beautiful once running though.
