1 barrel carb connection

66 f 100 with 70's model 300 cid. It has a 1 barrel carter carb, what connects to the right of where the fuel line connects to the carb? I am guessing something to the air filter? I have nothing connected to it right now and would like to know if I can leave it that way?

i have the same setup.. i just pluged mine and kept on truckin'

mine aint plugged but it seems fine, might just cover it up for safety reasons....keep ***** from getting sucked into the carb
