Ok trying to decide what to do with my truck. I love it it pulls awesome and not a bad truck its no Lariat but not bad. I drive maybe 3 miles a day maybe once a week it gets driven interstate and about 10 times per year it pulls my 5th wheel a couple hundred miles. Will a DPF delete save my truck and my short mileage? Or am I still just killing the diesel and should trade it in on a 6.2 gasser? Thanks for any advise
Three miles a day? You're not even getting it up to full operating temps. A DPF delete will help considerably, but its not the one all fix. I'd encourage you to do an oil analysis and check your dilution percentages.
Yeah I know what you mean but I need my truck for work or at least a F250 and well the wifey would kill me if I brought home another car LOL with the egr and dpf gone wouldn't it be just like a good ole diesel motor? Or should I think more in going back to a gasser?
It's your call. We don't have a lot of 6.4s complaining about EGR problems. I left mine on and haven't had a problem but I watch the coolant level closely. At the first hint of meaningful coolant loss I'm checking the EGRs. The thing that kills the truck on short runs is the DPF. it never gets cleaned properly so you probably get a lot of cleaning attempts. That causes oil dilution. keep an eye on your oil level and like someone above said, get an analysis so you know whats going on with the oil.

Yes this is dead on.
If you aren't tuned and only driving a little, like you are... there will be problems.
It will always be in regen, because it will rarely complete a regen cycle. Then, fuel will be in the oil, then things wear out faster.
Well thanks guys man ive got to stop watching youtube almost afraid to start my truck this morning LOL I have a new air filter coming and next I need to figure out how to flush the coolant not sure if it was done before I bought the truck then I guess next thing is a tuner and delete pipe.
If you only run for a bunch of little trips, try to get out on the highway once in a while to get everything heated up. This will get moisture out of the oil.
Send an oil sample in and see what they say.
Worse case scenario, you might have to change the oil more often.
Ok I think that's my plan im looking at tuners now thinking the minmax one maybe and ill look into the oil sample I just changed my oil couple weekends ago but i have the valve thing already for sampling not sure ill know how to read it though LOL. What the best way to do a coolant flush? Also the tuner said only first two tunes I can use without the air in take changed but I think that will be fine for me id rather keep it close to stock.

FWIW before I deleted I had some success with an oil program I sort of made up for the 6.4. I travel in winter and summer and at times live in my 5th wheel and use the truck to tour around. Short frequent trips. What I did was install a fumoto drain. I changed oil at 5000 miles and at each 1000 miles between changes I would drain the oil down to 1 quart low, then add a quart of fresh. My oil reports improved and the dilution was reduced a good bit. By the time I had done a couple cycles I had the time down to about 5 minutes and all it cost me was a gallon of oil each cycle.
Yeah I think you posted that a long time ago and I bought one I ussaly drain 5 quarts in between changes and add fresh to it. Im going with the H&S Mini Maxx, Diamond Eye DPF/Cat delete Ill think about an intake from S&B but I just put in a new motor craft air filter couple days ago.

I'm no expert but some guys who should know say the after market air filters are a waste of money unless you are running really really high HP tunes.
