1987 SCab 460 4v. Anybody happen to know the part number for the heater return tube that screws into the water pump? Is there an "O" ring used for a seal? Had to heat mine up to get it loose, so if it had an o ring it's toast. Local Ford garage didn't know, and I couldn't find any info in my shop manual. Thanks.
After more running around, I was able to remove the return tube from 85 parts truck (fits 83-93 460 according to dealer). Dissecting it, grind off the "stakes" at the bottom of the threaded end, the nut will slide off. There are 2 "o" rings that go between the tube and the nut to seal it. Local NAPA didn't have any that would work, so have to do some more checking tomorrow.
As my above post, I'm learning how to fix it. Now if I can find the right "O" rings.............
Local Ford parts guy is off to "deer camp" so I might have to wait until next week.
Hi Rock, yes the smog bracket is in the way. Found some o rings, used waterproof grease for lubricant, staked the end where the gland nut goes on, got it installed. Have to finish some of the work, then pressure test the system for leaks. Waiting for it to warm up.
On my 86 with the 351, the smog brackets "fell off". Mounted the alternator with just the long bolt and the adjusting bracket. Been ok for about 6 years now.
