Originally posted by webmaster It was confirmed this weekend by the engineers at Ford that the production Lightning specs are going to be pretty close to the concept vehicle shown in January. 500HP! Wahoo!
From the quote above it seems that it is heading in the same direction as the concept unit.
Unfortunately, It will be just a matter of time until Ford confirms in detail the sepcs....
hey do any one of you guy"s know anyting about the 2004 f-250 harley truck i have a 2002 lightning i want the new 04 lightning but i like the harley truck what to do
I you allow me to give you an advice, don't even believe half of what sales people have to say. I have experienced that they are less informed than the average car & truck enthusiasts and they will add fictous, non-verified facts to actual quotes or facts. Their job is to sell you a vehicle, not to be a source of information. I can guarantee you that you will hear breaking news here first, than any sales person working for Ford. Now if you happen to know an executive or engineer, then that is a different story....
Un-like the Harley Truck, the 2004 Lightning will still be based on a F-150 platform....

I've read that there will be a '04 model but late in the year, poss. early '05. I also read that there is a strong possibility that the Tremec 6 speed gearbox and the 22" wheels will not come out on the first model as previously expected. Ford's SVT team feels that most consumers have been satisfied without stick so it is said that it will be equiped with the new 4R75E 4 speed automatic trans, used in the new F-150. As for the wheels it is expected to have 18" or perhaps 19s, 20s at most.
It is a dissapointment since Dodge's SRT-10 plans are solid as they could be, putting them ahead of the game with their 505hp powerplant, 6-speed Tremec gearbox w/a hurst shifter, 22" Viper style wheels and even a 508 watt sound system.
Can someone please help the SVT team at Ford find their bawls...?
SVT & Ford have NOT lost or missplaced anything! It's just a matter of priorities and developement cycle time.
The AS YET not released ALL NEW 2004 F150 represents an awsome amount of work to get to Job 1 status. The F150 line of trucks is the best selling line of vehicals in the world. Ford shows that it has some very BIG ones to make such dramatic changes like they did and they have a lot at risk here.
This is part of the reason that the '04 Harley-Davidson Edition truck is a SuperDuty . . . they simply need to get the new for '04 F150 delivered to market before the performance verisions.
funny how dodge has had it's rt-10 concept in R&D since before the new (current) ram was introduced and it's STILL not available! In fact, from what I hear there are several DCX PVO ram 1500 'test mules' with 5.7L supercharged hemi v-8's racking up developemental test miles because the brass over there is VERY concerned that their $50k+ viper v-10 powered srt-10 is NO FASTER then a stock '03 Lightning yet cost many thousands more to build, let alone market.
As I mentiond in the earlier post, form what I hear there will be no '04 model year F150 SVT Lightning. There WILL BE a 2005 model year F150 SVT Lightning which will most likily be introduced EARLY in spring of 2004 as a 2005 model year truck.
Your theory on Ford's delay makes sense and I will not argue that point do to that fact.
This is the first time that I've heard that the people from Dodge are testing 5.7L supercharged hemi v-8's due to the poor performance of their V-10, I think it is halarious but never the less a 8.3 liter V-10 should not be understimated in any way. It is a whole lot of engine with huge potential.
The point that I was trying to make earlier was that even though Dodge has taken an eternity to come up with a product like the SRT-10, they remained on course with their primary idea and their specs. Unfortunately it's now on our doorstep. The truck is said to come out in December and it is also said that it would be between $40k-$45k.
Yes that is a lot more expensive than the '03 Lightning but the fact remains that the public wants big power, big wheels & aggresive performance. Something out of the ordinary.
There is not a doubt in my mind that the proposed Lightning will outperform any other truck in it's category but it is dissapointing to see how little by little they are taking away ingredients which made the Lightning concept so attractive & exotic. If it takes longer, than let it be but don't cut corners. The 22" wheels I'm sure they could due without but the 6-speed gearbox, that hurts.
i love the svt lightning as all of you well know right now it is the fastest production truck on the planet. the chevy (piece of crap) ss does not even come close by any means looks or speed and dodge says they will come out with the srt 10 pick up but that won't even be a problem for our current model to handle. this message goes out to ford you are all on the right track we have the fastest truck lets keep that title. do what it takes to blow away those wanna be brands.
a six speed trannie 500 rear wheel hp with that extra boost of 45 hp combined with the awesome looks of the lightining could never be touched. like nike say's "just do it".
Upper Case edited out by FTE,please refrain from its use
You can buy cable shift man-six's and clutch pedals. Install and enjoy. Once you spend half a K whats a couple thousand to make it what you want. What is the word on the Dual Exhaust. I love dual dumps. I just hope the price goes down a little.
I was under the understanding that the 2004 year lightning would actually be a carry over 2003 with minor changes and then a 2005 model would be out late 2004/ early 2005 thatw would be in the new body style with the new bells and whistles.
Personally I think the auto is preferred. It would be nice to have the option for those that want it but I think part of the SRT-10's **** *** performance is trying to weild 500HP through the manual, humans are only so fast and you can't go around power shifting all the time it just isn't practicle.
I work at a Ford Dealership near seattle and can confirm what cowtown said. The 04 is simply an 03 carryover this year. I don't have any information unfortunately though on when the new ones will be out but I can tell you I'm anxious. I saw our first group of 04 F150's come in today and they look great!
