I am installing the front hangers for the rear leaf springs and have a question about the two bolts that go through the bottom frame lip. The side holes utilize the existing rivet holes so I know the brackets are in the right spot, however, there is a gap between the bottom of the hanger and the frame lip.
Should I just put some washers in between to act as spacers before I bolt the two bottom bolts? Suggestions welcomed. Thanks, Matt.
No crossmember that I'm aware of....there was one rivet there that the instructions said to grind down. The plate idea sounds better than washers which was my original thought.
If it was me I would install and tighten the lower bolts first to suck the plate to the frame then I would drill the upper holes (if they don't line up) install and tighten the upper bolts and call it done. I would not put washer in there (small surface area) and I don't think you would need a plate.
I agree with Dave, I would drill the bracket to match the frame rather than the other way around. Most of the stress is upwards so doing it this way puts the bolt at the bottom of the double drilling so it is supporting and transferring the weight.
