Yesterday my son was driving my truck and he said he hear a noise,( I think it was tire noise) but he got out and checked the front end and found what looks like a seal that fell out on the axle where it comes out of the main housing before the u joint at the wheel.
I checked it this morning no oil is leaking and it makes no noise when jacked up and the hub is engauged and the wheel spun to check.
I checked the other side and it is the same way, so I checked my sons truck and they are both out also.
I have an 07 F350 and he has a 06 F250 both 6.0s
What gives? should we push these back in or do we have a bigger problem?
That's pretty much a dust seal to keep junk out of the axle tube. The diff is sealed from inside the housing - BIG job if you do develop a leak. Heck, these seals are no small job either! I'd probably try to push them back in place and keep an eye on them. Replace them when you need ball joints or axle joints if they stay put.
