I am seriously considering having my dealer install the cab lights and they advise that they add these lights all the time. I am just worried about them dropping the overhead console and headliner to do the job. My interior is perfect and there are no noises inside like squeaks, rattles, etc.
Has anyone had these lights installed and have any unusual problems? Regret it? I like the look and always have my lights on day or night. Thanks for the input in advance!
I have been thinking about putting the cab clearence lights on my excursion for awhile , just the actuall install scares me. I have been stoping around the local dealers , and talking to the guys to see if they have actually installed a set before , and all have come up saying no.
I just don't want to go thru the hassle myself , as well as be someone elses "test" truck...........
I did it about 2 months ago. A real PITA, but worth it after done the install. I would recomend a body shop install though! I bought the wiring harness and lights from ford and it took about 5 hours to install. I got the parts for a 2003 F-250! Hardest part was trying to balance on the roof and drilling 3 holes per light(x5 lights).
my dad did it on his '99. He is a perfectionist type-A and it took him 10 hrs. The cool thing is you can set them up and space them however you want. Too much a PITA for me, I would like to do it though.
The thought of drilling into a perfectly good roof scares the heck out of me. Thats why I want someone experienced to do the job. My local Ford dealer's body shop advised they "put them on all the time." Thats good enough for me. They said $150 for labor and $80 something for parts, so about $230 total. That price is worth it to me, considering all the holes to line up and they are used to doing the job. I don't want to test my craftsmanship on something like that.
Developing squeaks (headliner drop down) or a leak does worry me as well! More power to the others for doing the install themselves!
Your install looks factory installed to me! Nice job. I see you are a fellow Marylander. I live just outside of Hagerstown. All this rain is a PITA ,huh? Take care.
I believe some states do require certain trucks to have cab lights. However, we are indeed talking about putting them on SRWs. It just depends what you like I guess. I think they look cool on the SDs. I would have ordered them on my truck, but I bought it off the dealer's lot. Would have been a lot cheaper to, $55 vs. $230+!

When aren't you crossdressing something?!!!
Firstpickup,
Howdy neighbor! Yes all this d@mn rain is for the ducks and they are calling for 7 more days of rain! Thanks for the kudos on the install. It was a real PITA. But worth it when I turned them on.
Actually Federal Law requires them on any production, road going vehicle that has a body width of 80" or more.
Monsta, I thought the law was for trucks over 80" tall, *** Roof Clearance lights(not width lights?)
