Speedometer does not work!
I pulled the cable and it was not broken, leading me to think that it is the doo-dad on the rear of the transmission that needs to be replaced. What is this ring gear thing called, and what is involved in fixing it?
Thanks!!
It's just called the speedometer gear; either the drive (on the trans/t-case output shaft) or the driven gear (on the VSS stabbed into the side of the trans/t-case). Pull the small bolt that retains the VSS in the casting and see what the driven gear looks like. If its teeth are worn off, replace it with one the same color (tooth-count). If they're OK, you'll have to pull the output yoke, snap-ring, and drive gear. You might find instruction with diagrams here.
