They say a pipeline broke in northern CA so there are short on supply. I say they are long on BS. One line goes down and this happens. Wait until we have a real natural disaster and see how hard it will be to find fuel
Damn, in 2 days, jumped from $4.21 to $4.49. Regular gas is $4.69-$4.89. WTF just happened.
Where are you? 4 refineries in CA are off line at the moment, causing problems. CA has some of the largest refineries so when one goes offline it can cause problems. Gas went up $.60 this week here. This price hike actually doesnt make me mad because it is for a legitimate reason and has not resulted in increased prices of unrelated commodities, such as diesel.
While gas has spiked this week, diesel has remained unchanged because no diesel refineries went offline. I still think its too high, but at least this spike has a reason.

Actually... there is a law regarding that. In CA it is illegal to increase a price of a life necessary commodity (such as gasoline) by more that 10% following a natural disaster.
Dont quote me on the specifics like 10% but its a law. Just hard to enforce and causes small mom and pop stations to go under.
Ours is holding steady at 3.79 - 3.85. I was out of town for 2 weeks and got back and it is still at that price range (gas is 3.37 - 3.49). I might run out and fill the truck before places around here get wind of the increase.
On the other hand, our fuel prices are more affected by hurricanes than by broken pipelines.
The issue I am referring to is not the amount of price increase that can be utilized during a natural disaster, the issue I have is that one refinery goes off line and the whole state does not seem to have enough fuel to maintain supply and demand. When I purchased my 67 gallons last night I had to go to two different stations because the first place I stopped at said their internet was down so the pumps would not work. If we have a serious natural disaster out here we are screwed in terms of finding fuel for an extended period of time. Now the Governor is trying to force the early release of winter blend fuels to ease the shortage.<O</O
it's amusing how they have always been able to find a reason to justify skyrocketing fuel prices. Crude usually gets the blame, but it has been going down for the past week. It's just under $90 now.
The fact that this is isolated to CA is really interesting. does this mean the refineries that went offline only supply CA? HIGHLY doubt that!!!!
