geltlemen,
as you probably know, ive been looking into getting the heartthrob cat back system for my truck for quite some time now. i called JC Whitney and they said it wont fit on my truck because i have the two gas tanks. my question here is just to varify what they are sayingm will it not work with the 2 tanks? and onto my other options. i really want a dual exhaust on my truck (see signature). even though its only a 6, i want that throaty v8 sound. i know i wont get that exact sound, but i want to come as close as possible. what would you guys recomend? im looking for a dual exhaust cat back for my six that will sound as close to a v8 as possible. ive looked into gibson, summit, Flowmaster, jegs, and things like that. im looking for a system that exits in the rear of the truck under the bumper. i just need some other input. oh yeah, im keeping the first cat and getting a hi flow second cat.
thanks, john
hey,
i would just stop by a exhaust shop and see what they think, besides, why not get rid of both of the stock cats and get just a single highflow cat, or even better, no cats! well if you have to go through emissions then i guess that wont work.
John, I have got a 300I in my 96 F150 and no you can not get duals when you have 2 tanks. Nor can you get your exhaust Y'd off to exit both sides. what you are going to have to do is run both outlets out your passenger side or run both pipes straight out the back. Now for some advice, this comes from personal opinion though so take it as you wish. As for getting 2 mufflers, well you really should save your money. You will not get that V8 sound no matter what you try and do to your exhaust, however you can make it sound good. What I had done was I took the rear CAT off and bought a Super Turbo Dynomax muffler with 1 inlet and dual outlets. I bent my own pipes to exit in front of my rear passenger tire. I think that it sounds good and looks good too. Now you can do as you wish, thats just my opinion, but as far as 2 mufflers, save your money the sound wont reflect and your motor really doesnt need that much flow in order to perform to the best of its ability. If you want some pics just reply on this forum and I will check back sometime this weekend and post afew of my exhaust if not, good luck
I had found that letting your exhaust stop right behind the back seat (under the seats) without running pipe all the way out and have 2 turn down regular tips it seems to make a louder impression. The longer the pipe the quieter the system will be and the more chance it has of changing the tone. So let her dump right under the seats and it will have that roar of a V-8 that your looking for. (flowmaster 40 or 50 series)
I see you are from Pennsylvania, I am also and got a conversion kit from Fisher auto parts. I have both converters off and it is a straight pipe back to the muffler and then a pipe and Y to take the 2 pipes out the rear of the truck.
