I have a 2012 5.0 with about 1500 miles on it. I have noticed occasionally on start up that it feels like it is trying to stall? I give it a little gas and it goes away. Has anyone experienced this?
also have 2012 5.0 with about 1000 miles and may have similar issue, if i'm backing into garage or some other really light pedal situations, where you give just a little gas and then let off, i swear i feel a little miss or stumble but it has never stalled...yet
Mine will do this, but it will do to the point of surging in about a 1000 rpm range unless I goose the throttle. The annoying part is that I can't reliably reproduce it and when I went for an oil change, the tech gave me some nonsense about a shift strategy... why would a shift strategy make my engine stumble at low throttle when I haven't left 1st gear?
The only thing I've noticed is that when my '11 5.0 is cold and I'm moving it in my driveway the gas/engine is really twitchy say when backing up or just moving truck etc... only like this though for first few minutes after a cold start.
Anyway, I don't see it as a problem as truck runs perfectly fine after warm. This 5.0L is one of the smoothest, best V8 engines I've ever experienced, also surprisingly decent on fuel economy at least with my 2wd Supercab.
1400 k miles as of last week and not a problem with my 12 but my 2010 did the surge thing at first but when i got 3 to 4 thousand miles it just went away!
BUT... My brother had his catalytic converter clog up on him today. Stopped the truck dead on side of the rode. Had to call roadside. He also has 22k on his.
Yeah mine too. When I first start it the truck seems as though it will stall. In shop now and they say nothing wrong with it. Started it around 400 miles before I made first payment.
2012 super crew xlt 5.0 and weird stuff going on. Same stuff just after starting after sitting for several hours. Had a Toyota for past 6 six with never an issue. Go figure.
Are you guys sure its due to the 5.0? I have the 5.4 and mine does it every once in a while: Rough idle upon start up, where it feels like it'll stall, occasional surging, etc.

Which is why I think jonbar87 could be right...if it is always on cold starts it might to be a cold start timing issue.
this timing issue could be an attempt at cleaner emissions at start up. by retarding the ignition ATDC they are likely attempting to get the converters up to operating temp sooner.
Perhaps they pushed the envelope just a little too far?
