300 6 cyl.
My son just recently installed a new rebuilt 300 6 cyl. longblock in an '89' F250.Every thing went fine until bringing the no. 1 cyl. up to TDC.There is a stamped timing tab on the left of the engine and raised cast timing marks on the right side on the timing gear cover.Which do you use ? Veiwing the piston thru the sparkplug hole and bringing it up to the marks on either side does not line up.Is the piston actually at the top of the cylinder at this point with both valves closed ?The rotor is pointing at the no. 1 sparkplug terminal when we think we are at TDC.What are we overlooking here ?-Sodbuster54.
