Hey, while we're talking about light bulbs, i want to change the color of my dash light, and ac light, i have an aftermarket stereo, so i dont need to change it. Question is, are they green bulbs that give it the green color, or is it a green tint on the gauges and other clear parts. I have some experiance in hardwiring, so i feel fairly comfortable doing it. So basically, can i just buy blue bulbs? Cause i dont wanna have to change gauge faces or anything if i dont have too. Thanks everybody. Hey, did you get that radio bulb changed?? Good luck man. And i appreciate all help. Thanks.
I think we've pretty well covered how to take the radio out to gain access to the bulb, but instead of using tweezers and removing the face plate, you really should gently lift the tin top off the radio with a small slot screwdriver.
It will snap back on when you're done. I promise.
I have three OEM radios of this vintage on my bench right now. One is a plain am/fm with clock, one is an am/fm cassette w/o clock, and the final one gives me a clock, cassette and am/fm.
They all come apart the same way, giving direct access to the inside of the radio and the bulb.
It is not necessary to risk the small wire loom connecting the faceplate to the chassis of the radio. You do not need double-sided tape to orient the new bulb. While the top is off, it wouldn't hurt to gently blow some of the accumulated dirt off the inside components.
When you're done, just snap the top back on the radio and re-attach the wiring harnesses and the antenna lead.
