Hi !I have a 1996 ford ranger 2.3L automatic. I need to replace the instrument cluster. I can remove all the plugs from the rear of the cluster except 1 black wire I assume is the speedo cable. It runs from the rear of the cluster down underneath the dashboard. Can anyone tell me how to remove this cable so I can replace the entire cluster?
My guess is it is the cable from the trans that indicates what gear you are in, unless you have already disconnected that. I've to to remove mine soon and probably have the same question. Don't think you actually have a cable for the spedo.

Your right. Its the shift indicator cable. After closer inspection, I can take the entire PRNL2 out. There are 2 tabs that I release and the whole assembly, which is attached to the cable, comes out of the cluster.
