Governor/Speed Limiter

Hey guys. I decided to open up the ol 460 last night and was really dismayed. It wouldnt budge past 102. Iv heard stories of 454s, 460 cars, 440s, etc etc doin 120, 130, 140 no problem. I figured my ol brick of a pick-up would do at least 110! Do our trucks have a governor and is there a way to shut it off? Itll be less for deciding to drive fast randomly and more im case I wanna go to the drag strip. I doubt I can do 100 in a 1/4 mile but its better to know it was my governor than think it was.

Before anyone starts an argument, Ill go ahead and answer some questions:
No, my MT tires are not rated for anything over 99 mph
Yes, I have a lonely stretch of road to do it on
Yes, I am stupid enough to do it
Yes, Im a good driver
No, it is not patroled by the 5-0
Yes, it gets ansey after about 80. The front end feels light and gets hairy.
Yes, it has deep ditches but few trees. You wreck at 100 mph, you die
No I dont wear my seatbelt. Its a stupid law IMO
And yes, I really do think I need it shut off

Some may argue that these two statements contradict. Sorry, but you knew you had some grief coming when you asked! I'm not sure about a rev limiter on your truck, defintely not a governer.

I get those two confused lol. It doesnt "cut out" like most limiters do (stop the engine til it slows down, then picks back up). It just stopped accelerating.

95 is the set limit on these trucks, You must have larger tires to throw the speedometer off. And no, you will not even be close to 100 in the 1/4. More like 17 seconds and 78mph

Only stupid people think that, there's no way you'll suffer less injury in a crash by flying through the windshield and smashing into whatever the truck just smashed into.

^^^ That video is fake lol.

And the setabelt law is yet another way the government controls our lives. But its personal choice. I choose not to wear mine, even though theres a law. Everyone breaks laws, mine happens to be seatbelt. And speeding occasionally lol. And Id rather die instantly than get in a wreck, car start on fire, and burn up because I cant get my seatbelt off. But this also has zero to do with the subject.

And my tires are stock. 265/75R16. My speedo is right on, maybe a mph or two off. It might be off at higher speeds though since it stops at 80 lol

We'd rather you die instantly too, but the odds are on you surviving as a veggie or disabled and then mooching off the rest of us for the rest of your "life" such as it will be........

Well, since he already drives without a seat belt, he's most of the way to mentally disabled.

I guess you didn't do too well in statistics class, huh? It's not even close that wearing one is far safer than not.

You asked a question about how to be immature. You shouldn't be surprised at the responses you've gotten. Those of us who have lived a little longer perhaps thought that way at one time, but have buried too many friends and relatives. We also regret not listening to the advice our elders gave us so many years ago.

Here's hoping you grow up.

I'd suggest finding a real steep hill to head down so that you can attain terminal velocity. If you really want to man up, cut your brake lines and e-brake cable so that you make sure there's no additional drag.

Reminds me of the helmet law dispute... the bikers against the helmet laws say they'd rather be dead than be a vegetable. My response was, say you are in a wreck at 20 mph. You hit your head on the pavement with no helmet (or the non-DOT skull cap a LOT of people wear), and suffer severe brain damage and become a vegetable. If you had a good helmet you would walk away with a mild concussion. You are better off with a helmet, the same as you are with a seatbelt in a car. Personally I dont usually wear my seatbelt. I would probably be more likely to wear it if the government didnt tell me I had to.

What did you expect? Us to praise and accept driving dangerously and putting others and yourself in danger? On top of that, how to do it even more?
