-Mine is deteriorating...looks bad......I've read some of the older threads about this thing....lots say its not nessessary and just tear it off completely....I can't do that.....I like things nice and neat-factory looking....besides I think Ford put these things on for a reason......I've checked on Horizon's site but can't find a replacement....anyone know where I can get a NEW factory one? Thanks!
I think hes talking about the black insulation piece that goes around the battery. I have it on my 02 X but not on my 02 F 350. Its like a security blanket for the battery.

OK, thanks. I do remember seeing some kind of insolation on the passenger side of the engine bay. I guess it is after the 01 my.

Exactly! I wonder if there isn't a new one available from Ford if there would be enough interest for me to have some duplicated/made?
He means the Red plastic cover that is on the Positive battery cable on the passenger battery terminal if I am reading his info correctly. The new cable comes with a new plastic piece but the retail on the entire cable is 180$
I don't know if they sell that insulator by itself. I had to replace my positive battey cable last october because my passenger side terminal clamp was broke and had been almost broke for at least a year.
You could always just purchase some plasti-dip. Wash your old insulator with dishwashing fluid to remove all the grease or oil. If you have any lubricant or grease on the surface, the plasti dip will not stick to it. Tape the inside of the insulator and spray it with silicone lubrication spray or pam cooking spray to keep the plasti-dip OFF of the inside when you dip or spray the outside of the insulator to recoat it. Heck, you could just do the driver's side while you are at it. They should last a very long time after that.
PRESTO! New looking and almost OEM looking now with the new red plastidip. I think they sell some of the plasti-dip colors in spray cans now. Here is the red stuff at link below. Check your local Auto parts stores also. Plasti Dip Multipurpose Rubber Coatings - Red Coating Color - Aerosol Application Style - DXEngineering.com

No Sir, I was meaning the insulation wrap/blanket that goes around the battery itself to protect from engine heat.

Thermo-Tec makes an insulating wrap and sold through a variety of retailers XDP, AutoZone, Jegs etc. It's silver though. If you want the black OEM look then check eBay, I've seen them pop up from time to time.
