New motor coolant

After many long nights, I finally have my new 460 put together and ready to try starting tomorrow. My question is: is it OK to run the engine with no coolant in the block or water pump? Will the thermostat work with no fluid in the block? I filled the radiator, should I be putting coolant into the block or water pump somehow before I fire it up?
Thanks.

I forget how the 460 thermostat housing is positioned (don't have my 460 truck anymore) but if you can unbolt it and pour water in there, that'll fill the block easily. Really it probably won't hurt it to run it the way you have it now, if you filled the radiator then the block is at least partially full and as soon as the pump starts turning it'll suck whatever's in the rad into the block. Just keep the level up in the radiator as she warms up, and it'll be fine.

Thanks. Thermostat's right on top of the intake manifold but I already have it all sealed up so I'll do as you say and just keep the rad full.

Just be ready for when the t-stat opens. That radiator will drain in a hurry when it does.
