Ok well I can understand the why they are probably saying in will need a 3in body lift, possibly so they won't be reliable for someone kitting the inner fender and screwing something up. But then again putting in a body lift requires some other modifications too!

I appreciate all the replies. Has anyone installed their Mad Dog Headers yet?

If you had bothered to do the google search you would see plenty of what I was talking about... I don't know when your experience with L&L was but apparently their product quality has taken a pretty serious dive. All sorts of forums are filled with posts by people that said "I vouched for L&L's quality and when I started seeing people post up that their L&L stuff didn't fit, I just thought they didn't know what they were doing. Then I ordered new L&L headers for my new project and lo and behold, the crap they shipped me was worthless junk with boogered welds and fitment issues."

I wanted L&L chassis exits since they are kinda the only game in town for the 460 in a 4wd, but now I'm probably gonna go with the mad dogs just based on the recent bad reviews I've seen of the L&L's vs good reviews for mad dogs. Have to go fender exit but really not a big deal to me.

I put maddog fender well headers on my '73 with a 460 and had no clearance problems. A little tricky getting the in though. they're close to the steering shaft on the driver's side and the shock tower on the passenger side but they don't hit.

My experience with L&L was within the last 2 years so it is possible that quality has declined. I'm not endorsing either company...just sharing my experience.

Your comments about L&L's quality is the same that the FTE guys said about MadDogs welds when I posted pics of their headers. Anyway........moving on.

77MudRat....good luck in whichever brand you choose.

Hmm...Well even if L&L made 390 fender-well exits I would probably still get the Mad Dog Headers. Their instructions are kinda sketchy, but Mad Dog isn't knows very well IMO. I think I will try Mad Dog and If they are not $450 dollars worth I think I'll be done with them!

I have no problem with the maddog for the price. I ordered them through JBG. the guy makes them per order (at least the ones I got) and took 5 or 6 weeks because the guy was on vacation. Like I said, mine fit with no mods to the truck at all. I can't speak for the 390 application though.

Yea I understand that, that's why I'm asking on here because 450 dollars is a lot to through out for a something that MIGHT be good.

What engine mounts are you running? Not sure if different mounts would result in a different fitment or not. I'm trying to decide on what brand to go with myself.

Motor mounts wont change anything when running a set of fender-well exits.

not all combinations of stands and mounts will put the motor in the exact same place. just something to think about.

Hey will the tires or wheels ever hit the fender-well headers?
