torque converter ?

ok, im pulling out my motor and tranny and all that good stuff. im replacing it with a 302, i blew the 2.9 sky high last week so i decided to go on and do the swap. ill be taking the tranny and transfer case to a yard, so it will get parted out there. now to my question. why do i have to undo the torque converter to flexplate bolts? ive seen people do this adn never touch these bolts, maybe i missed it, i dunno. i have no reason to keep this stuff lined up, so can i just pull the motor and forget the converter bolts? this is my first auto pull, ive done a bunch of 5 speeds, ive seen autos done, but never done them. thanx

Removing the tranny you don't have to pull the TC bolts. It's when you are putting things back together that the TC has to be in the tranny to being with. It has to line up on the splines on the input shaft and you can't spin the shaft when you are installing the tranny. But, when you are separating them, you can leave the TC on, just be careful you don't destroy the front pump, stator support, or input shaft.
