I recently purchased a 68 f250 regular cab with a short bed. i have a buddy said ford never offered a short bed to the public. If so how rare are these

 

Not rare at all. Are you sure it is a f250? There are alot of shortbeds out there. actually on my way to school each day i pass a guy with a 67 f100 shortbed and a 70 crewcab short bed.

 

Is he talking about Ford not coming out with a shortbed f250? Or in general? Ford had shortbeds..not sure on the f250.. but you could probably look at the vin number to see. It would take quite the amount of work to convert from one to the other. Are you sure its an f250? I'm not trying to play you dumb or anything. But I'm just lookin at all aspects the vin would tell you if it was an f100 or 250

 

It is titled as a f250. It came off the naval air station in jacksonville. I played hell trying to get tires for the 17.5" rims . it only showed 4500 miles on it

 

I have a 67 camper special that has a long bed. I do believe there is a F250 that has a shorter bed than compared to the camper. Not sure if it can be considered a short bed.

 

According to the vin tag the length of the wb is 115" the vin # starts with F25AND. I looked at a ford spec site and the only 250s they showed was a 133 wb. this is definitely strange

 

Then it very well could b a shortbox which would be pretty cool.

 

Is the F250 a Regular Cab (2 doors) or a Crew Cab (4 doors)?

Not strange at all for an F250 Regular Cab to have a short bed if the original purchaser was the US Gov't or it was a Domestic Special Order. Look on the Warranty Plate for the DSO code, post what it is.

Do NOT believe the miles shown on the odometer! The odometer reads to 99,999.9 then returns to ZERO!

roninx17: 1967/72 Camper Specials use the same 8' Styleside bed as other F100/350's.

EVERYTHING that made up the Camper Special package (with one exception) could be ordered for all non Camper Specials.

68cabby: The VIN has 11 digits. There is no code within the VIN that decodes to a pickup until 1973.

1970/72: Only the 3rd digit of the BODY code stamped on the Warranty Plate decodes to a pickup.

 

This I gotta see. Yes an F250 short bed is rare like the CS longer bed is rare. A standard long bed is shorter than a Cs bed. ND can shed some light on this I think cant'ca Bill?

Here's How to Post Pictures:

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Tricky, are you sufferin' from cabin fever livin' on that island? What year Camper Special has a different length Styleside bed than a non Camper Special?

N-O-N-E = NONE!

The only variation: 1973/79 F350's on the 140" wheelbase (1973/76 Super Camper Special, 1973/79 Trailer Special, 1977/79 Camper Special-Ford dropped "Super" after 1976) have the rear axle set back further than other F350's, but the Styleside bed is still 8' long.

 

Being an AF vehicle, I would apt to believe it only had 4500 miles. Likely it sat in a hanger all it's life waiting to be used once a year for something r udder.

Why woulda USAF vehicle be located at a Naval Air Station?

With 4,500 miles, I'd be more inclined to believe the truck spent many years on an aircraft carrier than at a shore based Naval Air Station.

How far could one drive on the flight and hanger decks? Depends on the length of the carrier.

And, if on a carrier, this could account for the F250's short bed. The DSO code will tell the tale if purchased by the US Gov't...or not.
