I have an 05 ex v10 4x4 with 3.73 gears, Was towing my camper (9000#s fully loaded) after about 100 miles pulled off highway and tranny fluid was dripping out of a grommet in the bell housing. Dripping right on the exhaust and it looked like it was on fire.
All gauges showed everything running cool. Checked fluid and couldn't see any loss. Continued to our location and it seemed to stop. Checked tranny fluid continuously and never really showed much loss. Just enough to cause smoke on pipes.. Drove home and stopped leaking. Got two miles from house and started again.
Tranny temp gauge never moved. Does seem to work because I watch it heat up and then stays at the same temp always. This was a 400 mile roundtrip here in flat Florida in the 90's.
The notorious seal problem. I had the same thing happen while backing my trailer up a hill. If you are referring to factory gauges, it will be too late when you see it move. You really need a scan gauge or similar product to watch it. Time for a new seal and 6.0 trans cooler upgrade. I didn't want to take the chance and since I had over 90k on the trans I had it rebuilt HD. Some say it will stop when it cools off but I don't like to take chance when pulling and having my family out camping. Good luck.
I talked to John Wood about my issue. Where I live, the transmission shops all wanted to replace it, I wasn't alright with that awnser so I called John! I didn't have any issues with shifting, weird shifting sounds, etc.
My issue was that I would loose fluid intermittently out of the front seal. It didn't matter if I was pulling a trailer, or driving in the city or on highway and sometimes would take a couple days to weeks before it leaked again.

I used to replace seals as a job, never touching the rest. Drop the trans, slip out the converter and the seal is right there on the front pump, pop it out with a puller, tap a new one in, button it up...........done.
