Congrats. You'll love the 5.0, mine is a hd payload and 3.73, I've pulled a big flat bed with a car on it, never flinched. I'm just old school and like the V-8 sound.

Sir, I could be mistaken. However, when i bought my truck (3.31) axle, the MPG highway number stated 21 MPG's. It stated the same for every other 4x4 EB truck on the lot. There were no HD F-150's in stock, otherwise I probably would have come home with that one.

Where Ford makes things a little bit clearer is the fine print below the larger city and highway numbers. Their disclaimer is "actual mileage may vary".

Having stated this, I think that mileage varies more from driving habits and geographical locations than from anything else. IE, a person who lives and stays in the mountains is going to get crappy mileage all the time.

I have to tend to agree with you, it's gonna vary, unless maybe you have a 4.10 rear. I had a 05' with a 4.10 and got 14 mpg no matter what you did, city, hwy, towing or not. With my 3.73 5.0 just took a roedtrip to Atlanta, best I got was 19.8, avg 18.7. But can definitely tell by driving habits the mpg's going up or down, gotta keep my foot out of it, but it's fun. I think on my sticker it said 17 and 20, and mine is HD.

Thanks for all input!!

Both will tow well provided you stay within the factory recommendations. The Ecoboost was engineered specifically for towing.

You need to watched the series of Ecoboost Torture Test videos. They're certainly a worthwhile viewing. This may have some influence on your decision.

The sound effects may be an added on purpose to enhance the video. Otherwise the sound on a most video audio can sound somewhat different than normal ambient sounds.

Well I ended up going with the 5.0 V8, Had it a week and I'm getting used to it(traded in a 2004 F350 CC 4X4 Long bed). Took a trip from Louisville, Ky to St Louis, got about 15mpg. real smooth and quiet ride.
PS: how do I post pics???
