My right directional/brake lamp works for about thirty to 60 seconds then fails. As if it is heating up, but the left one works fine. Any help is appreciated, I'm losing hair fast.
Sorry, the site must have signed me out, i didnt see the new posts.
The hazards only the one side i believe when i checked, i did look at that, i am going out to check again. i will also swap the front and rear and get back. Thanks so much everyone!
As I have stated before, you are way too bright for me when it comes to mechanics, and I am your worst nightmare, rookie.
Does that translate into i'm getting resistance on the green wire that goes into the bulb socket, because i have a short to a ground wire? Is the green wire the ground and there is a short in it somewhere?
Any chance you might elaborate in laymans terms or dope terms for me?
I think he's saying high resistance ground on one side. If not so, Flasher. I would think they'd use a common ground point but then I don't have a sheepskin.
You should only have three wires going to that right/rear bulb socket. What I mean by "green death" is wiring that has corroded away turning green in colour, hence the term. The wire in question going to that bulb socket will be the orange with light blue stripe coloured one. Follow this wire down to the main connection at the underside of your tailgate and you will likely find your problem. Pay particular attention to the underside of your tailgate area, where water can migrate to. I get a lot of trucks coming in with reverse park aid sensors not working because of this too. What you need to do, is check that wire at the bulb socket for a short to ground. To do so, simply get your DVOM and set to Ohms and check the continuity of that circuit to a good ground on the frame anywhere. You should have NO continuity on that circuit. Failing that, follow that wire as I've mentioned until you see a problem area where it has brittled or "greened" and repair as needed.
Thank you so much, M-chan. Excellently explained, it leaves no doubts, you should consider teaching if you can make a good buck at it. I will go through it first thing tomorrow. Funny that you mention the rear sensors because mine has been acting up lately as well. Thanks again, and good times ahead to you sir, Shade
If your Park Aid sensors are acting up, I would check the Park Aid sensor wiring too. Believe it or not, the entire wiring harness to all four sensors is actually less expensive than even one sensor itself alone.
But back on topic to your right side brake/turn signal issue, follow that wire down to the connector and unplug it. Check that circuit there with a test light to see if it flashes continuously with the connector unplugged on the harness end to follows through to the frame. For clarity, the connector would be the one you unplug, if you were intending on removing the box from the frame.
