I've searched through a bunch of posts, and I'm getting some conflicting information, so I was hoping someone could clear it up. I currently have 8-lug 16.5" wheels with 33 all-terrains on it, and I am looking to get more "road-friendly" tires on some 16" wheels (so the tires will be cheaper and easier to find). I have found a local guy who has some newer (they look like aftermarket) 8x165s with 225/75/16 tires that he took off a 71 Chevy C20 that he says should fit my truck (his listing says pre 99 Ford and Dodge), but I cannot find any hub/center bore measurements for wheels that fit his truck. He is going to measure tomorrow, but I was hoping someone could give me some guidance here.
I'm hoping these wheels happen to have a larger center bore... That would be convenient. From what I have found, I need 124.9mm/4.92in in the center, right?
That is odd. a 33 is 32.6" tall and a 235/85/16(stock size) is 31.7" tall. That should NOT equate to 13 mph off. @ 65 you speedo should read 62-63mph with your current 33" tires
My truck is such a frankenstein, I have no idea what "stock" would equal on it.
All I know is that when my speedometer reads 65 mph, I'm actually going 78 mph. I almost got in trouble when I first bought the thing, because I had no idea.
It's an inline 6 300 with a M5OD... I wonder if a previous owner put the factory speed sensor on a replacement tranny, or vice versa? Part of the fun of acquiring an old truck is trying to figure out how it got the way it is...
If it does scream with the 225s on it, I will definitely switch up to the 235s. I'm mainly trying to get these for the 16" wheels so my tires will be cheaper. Those 16.5" wheels make finding adequate tires pretty painful on the wallet.
It's an 89. When I took the tranny off to replace the clutch, pressure plate, and the internal slave cylinder (which was leaking and the cause of the problem) right after I bought it, the best I could tell from other descriptions was that it was a M5OD, but I could definitely be wrong. That was my first tranny work.
