Well I finally had use for a 2.9 short block I got from Dan, oh 2 years now.
My engine sucked a spark plug electrode and frizzed #4 resulting in gas wash and bearing flakes that looked like gold. So after removal of the fried block and putting it all together I eased it in solo. Started right up and so far so good.
So, THANKS DAN.
Obtaining that stuff finally paid off.
That block must be from the Ranger Dan had plans of putting a V8 in that I bet is still sitting under his carport still torn apart. Speaking of Tiger Dan, is he still around? He is still listed as moderator, so he must be posting somewhere.
Hmm, just checked the member lists, and he is not listed anymore.
Glad it worked out for you, Rich. I wondered if you ever got any use out of that shortblock. What did you do about the cam and lifters, run them as-is? Getting any lifter noise?
I'm running lifters up from my engine on your bottom end, I added an '86 throttle body.
I really haven't run it enough yet to see how it acts. Tried to run it out of gas yesterday and it never quit, bucked and sputtered but never quit, then took 15.2. Home was all downhill but smooth.
