DC Power

For those of you who have bought a DC Power alternator; how long did you wait until you got shipment confirmation? I ordered a 190 amp unit on 9/5. I promptly received 2 automated emails but have heard nothing other than my order is being processed. I sat on hold for phone for 10 minutes today before a recording said the person's voice mail box is full.

I just like to know how much longer I need to keep plugging in my charger. My stock alternator only puts out when it wants to (insert wife joke here). Maybe they're busy with those blinged out Escalade orders.....

1 thing Try to not drive it like that

Your FICM Is at High Risk of Failure with a Bad Charging system

Mine was only putting out in the 12 volts range there at the end But I never had to put a Charger on it

so if you have to keep charging the Batterys thats not Good

Have you Load Tested the Batterys Separatly?????

Here's the good, the bad and the ugly behind how my order process went ...

My alternator started to show some problems and I wanted to fix it asap.

I called DC one Thursday morning (Aug 16th) and told them I wanted to buy the 190 OEM with expedited FedEx shipping. The guy on the phone said he wasn't sure they had the parts in for the OEM ones. He said they were waiting on a components delivery. He put me on hold and went to check.
He came back and said they had everything in stock and they would have one shipped to me that day by close of business and I would see it on the East coast on Monday. Sweet. I told him I would complete my order on line and he said he would look out for it.
A few hours later a confirmation email with a FedEx tracking number appeared in my email.
That weekend the tracking showed that my order was still waiting pickup.
I called FedEx and they said that number is generated by the shipper and doesn't mean much to them until the shipper calls them to stop by and pickup the package. They still hadn't as of Sunday night.
I called DC on Monday morning and they admitted they actually never had the parts back on Thursday like they said they did.
I was contacted by another employee, courteous and apologetic on the phone, who said they would try to take care of me. A while later another guy called me to let me know that they would be sending me a HP 180 in lieu of my OEM 190 order. I asked him about the differences in the two and would this work on my truck. He just gripped about how they were helping me and taking a loss to make it right. ($339.95 v's $389.95 so $50)
Pissed me right off because I had missed one day of work ... and then had to take my second vehicle so I didn't lose anymore days. I don't get reimbursed by my employer for my diesel receipts in the 2nd vehicle so I was out about $200.
I looked up the HP on their website and saw that it wasn't mentioned as being an option for my truck. The pulley's were different for one.
To make sure it would be right this time I called them back. It kept going to voicemail and because I was back working from home I just put it on speaker and on repeat dial until someone answered while I worked away on something else.
I got the courteous and apologetic guy this time and told him about my concerns with the pulley and the positive output stud size. He said it would be taken care of.
The new alternator arrived on Aug 22nd. It had the correct pulley and the output stud was changed so I didn't have to mess with my cable attachment. It came with the spacers and was a direct swap. I had some longer bolts so that was not an issue. It had no problems sitting on the mount either ... the heater pipe support bolt did not interfere with the mounting.
It works great. 99% of the time when I look at my FICM I'm at 49 or 49.5. 48.5 is the new abnormal. Battery likes to run 14.3+.

I called Ed at FICMRepair to ask his opinion and he said I'd be alright with the HP 180. Although the amperage values were less side by side on paper, there were some internal benefits that made it a good buy over the OEM series.

All was sorted out in the end. I'm happy with the product. They did step up and try to correct their error. Their original desire to over-promise caused them to under-deliver and cost us both money. Of all the folks I dealt with on the phone only 1 had an attitude.

Now my fingers hurt. I don't usually type this much.

My DC Power 270XP took about 3 weeks to get and once I got it I had to wait another week to instal because they forgot to ship the spacers. I had to wait a bit longer than most because I had mine powder coated black. Very happy with the product though now that it has been installed and running in the truck

That's why i went with another vender, i had to e-mail them after 2 weeks to find out what was up with my order! Their web sight show's them in stock even after they knew they were out. So went with a 275 amp lifetime warranty from Alternators - Tenney Alt

Mine order went smooth. I waited for the Labor Day sale and they Shipped out Tuesday the 4th of September got it the Sixth. I ordered the the XP 250. The stock alternator took a couple of minutes to start charging after start up then the voltage would only be 13.29 max. The DC starts charging after about 10 Seconds @ 14.5 volts. Now my power sliding rear window closes easy.

Wow guys, thanks for the info. DC Power seems to have a cult following here and it was the main reason why I went with them. I'll keep calling and see if I can get a response. I'm sure this will turn out fine once I hear from them.

Benny, haven't load tested the batteries yet as I feel they're both strong. ( 1 year old) Towed my camper about 3 hours last weekend to go white water rafting and watched the SG II voltage bounce from 12.1 to 13.0 on the highway. Truck starts fine with good cranking RPM, FICM voltage never below 48 volts. Watching both voltages like a hawk and touching up the charge every other day until my DC Power OEM 190 AMP unit arrives.

I'll give a little feedback on DC Power, maybe it'll help other future DC Power patrons or non patrons.

Back in late February 2012, I spent a whopping $640.49 on a 250 Amp XP High Output Alternator for my 2005 Ford Excursion 6.0L with upgraded cables and terminals. In mid August it quit working, so I spent a few days calling, trying to get a RMA# so I could send it back. In the meantime I ended up getting an Autozone Duralast replacement to get me by. I shipped it to them on August 22nd. I get my repaired unit back tomorrow October 15th. My Autozone unit is working perfectly and has a lifetime warranty. I could have bought 4 of them for what I spent on the DC Power unit. I also realized after reading this thread that the spacers they forgot to send me the first time, won't really work with the stock bolts. So if they send you the spacers you should at least check that your bolts are long enough or not. I would also keep the original bolts in the glovebox encase you need to make an emergency purchase at Autozone. Thank you for letting me vent. I feel alot better now.

BTW, I'm not even sure I'm going to put the DC Power unit back in my EX. The only issue with my Autozone unit is I have to sit and wait for a minute for the volts to get up to 14 or so before I turn on the AC. I could just rape the hell out of the Duralast, then take it back to Autozone any day of the week no questions asked.

The one I'm waiting for is their OEM 190. Will I need spacers also? Not sure if they over speed the alternator by using a smaller pulley...

I am not sure that you need the spacers for the OEM replacement alternators..... I was told only the XP series of alternators need them because the cases are a bit different. I would call DC Power and talk to a fella by the name of Stan if you can get a hold of him..... he was the best one to talk to when I bought mine.

My XP 250 came with the spacers and the factory bolts worked fine. I paid $502.38 delivered but it was on sale for Labor Day. Knock on wood it doesn't break!! But if it does I still have the factory unit.

My new 275 amp alternator from tenneyalts.com for $325.00 I did have to swap the 5 rib pulley for my original 8 rib, thats why my max output is low.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=22786&pictureid=109346
