I have a 95 F150 and the air will start blowing in the floor under acceleration and back to the dash registers when I let off so I figure I have a vacuum leak somewhere. My question is: Are there any typical areas to inspect first before I start going through everything in the dash? Thanks
Start with the white vacuum hose that leads to the HVAC system, it's under the hood on top of the blower motor/heater/evaporator box. VERY common problem.

And check the vacuum cannister (coffee can) for leaks.
There is also a connector under the dash in the middle, should be a half moon clear connector with a few lines, check and see if it's loose or rubbed on some of the dash bracing
IMHO....pull that crappy white vinyl/plastic line all the way out of the bundle and replace all of it. For that matter replace all the under hood vacuum lines, all of them are a vacuum leak just waiting to happen.
