noisy 302

Recently after doing my past 3 or 4 oil changes, I'vo noticed that there seems to be some noise coming from the bottom of the engine. As the oil gets "dirtier" the noise seems to get quioter. It is a 96 and has 119k on it. Ihave been using genuine FL1-A, and Motorcraft 5w30. Should I switch over to 10w40? Winter is coming soon here and I don't want to run anything thicker than what I have to. Truck barely uses any oil in between changes. Just wondering what the noise is and if I should really worry about it. Sounds like something in the bottom end. Any advice is most welcome.
Thanks,
Rich

I've got a 92 f150 with a 302 and i have always used 10w40 oil in it, and the guy that owned it before me used it as well. It now has 185,000 miles on it and it is as quite as it can be. So i think you should use it, it won't hurt it.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll switch to 10w40 next oil change.

Watch out for sludge build up in the heads. Thicker oil doesn't drain as fast and will bake onto the valve train if you use your truck under heavy conditions. I was running 10w-40 for a while and was recommended not to use it. Go with manufacturing specs and choose a quality motor oil for the ambient temps your driving in. Your owners manual should state the options for the grade.
