Help Me Decide 2012 v 2013

I have been shopping around for a truck for quite a while now and about a month away from pullin the trigger. I have pondered everything from XLT to King Ranch. I have finally come to the conclusion that a Lariat is my best option. Now here is the big question...

There is a 2012, that has everything I need and more. MSRP is $63,000. The dealer about 2 months back went down to 54,000. I might be able to squeeze a little more out of them if I wait until the 2013's hit the lot.

OR...

I can order a 2013 with only what I need. MSRP is about $56,000-$57,000. I was curious to how much you can negotiate on a special order and is it worth it to hope for better incentives down the road.

Can I order the truck I want and get it down below $48,000? What are your thoughts?

Buy a 2012 or Order the 2013?

Richard

1. Order what YOU want. You will be happier.

2. If you think you might want an option, get it! Especially cab lights!

3. Get the Upfitters switches.

Well, tough question.

1. I would sit down with a salesman and give them the same pitch you gave us. See if they will go very low on the 2012 they have in stock to match or beat what you could get on a 2013 order.

2. I don't think the economy or markets are going to improve, so you have time to make a good deal before demand goes up. The dollar is only going to get weaker though, so don't wait too long (unless you're Canadian).

3. Does re-sale value mean anything to you? The 2012 loaded may be better for you in this regard.

4. What are your plans for the truck? How do you plan to use it? I'm not very patient and I use my truck for work so I would get it now and start setting it up which takes a while. Hitches, air system, lights, tonneau cover, bedliner, tool box, aux fuel tank, list goes on....

Great Idea!

Not Canadian

Not so much. I plan to use this well over 200,000 miles. I'd use it for 500,000 if it was cost effective. Thinkin 10+ years.

I will use the truck for my daily commute to work. I tow a 24' car hauler multiple times a year for something like 5,000 - 8,000 miles. Loaded, the trailer weighs in at about 10k. My next trip is not until march. My current truck can get the job done in the mean time, but it needs some costly repairs that are not worth doing so I'm gonna ride it out until trade. As long as I get truck in my driveway by February 2013, I would have enough time to complete modifications.

Very informative

I had the same scenario almost .... the truck on the lot was F350 Lariat Ultimate package, I could afford it so I said why not get more because all in all it was a good deal. If I sell it, it will be the best optioned truck and probably sell quicker or trade in for more value.

The other thing to consider about waiting for 2013's to arrive, and then getting them down lower on the 2012, somebody else might just think it's fine right now and take it tomorrow.

The possibility is definitely there. I don't worry much about it though. The picture that they have of the truck on their website show the truck with Snow all around it. We haven't had snow since very early this year. The truck has been there for quite a while

...IMHO...

No way...No how...the 2013 will be less then the 2012. So...if your main concern is the cost, then the 2012 is the best choice.

Also...No way...No how an ordered 2013 will be less than a truck sitting on a lot for months...and months.

So...go buy the 2012 loaded up...even if it has a few options more than you wanted...and enjoy! Oh yeah...make sure to post pics when you make the purchase!

I agree with going ahead and getting the 2012. I bought mine (2011) on Columbus Day weekend last year and got about 14K off the sticker price. If it has been sitting there since the winter, they will probably work with you a lot more to get it off the lot. If it has everything you want, go ahead and get it. You won't be sorry that you pulled the trigger a little early.

I'm more inquiring about how much 1 can save on an ordered 1.

2012 - MSRP 63,000
Minus Rebates and negotiating
--------------
53,000

2013 - MSRP 57,000
Minus Rebates
--------------
52,000*****
^Can I negotiate that price?

If the dealer takes another 4,000-6,000 off of that, the price would be 46,000-48,000

Around $80-$100/month lower payments.

If the price doesn't have that sort of wiggle room, then Ill take the LOADED 2012, for $1,000 more.

I was having the same debate myself but you see, I just don't like the number 13 so I bought the 2012 and this way I can skip the 2013's and go right for the 2014's at the end of next year. My wife even approved of this methodology.

Lucky man! The GF is getting worried about the truck being over $50,000, never mind getting a new truck every 2 years or so lol

Buy the 2012. I bought my 2010 that had been on their lot for about 8 months and the salesman was pulling discounts out of his sleeve like no other. He even found some $500 Ford voucher from when I test drove one at the car show a few months prior. I had no clue that was even offered at the time of the test drive.

Another little trick the salesman told me was to look for a factory direct unit as it would be less expensive because the dealer most likely had less money in it as opposed to a dealer trade where they might have a lot more money into the vehicle. He openly have me stock numbers of trucks that were factory direct units and showed me in the computer that it was direct.

Keep in mind the 13 has the new interior and electronics package. The 12 doesn't.

I was going to order a 13 now but my dealer tells me it's going to be close to Christmas before I would see it. That won't work for me so I was going to wait till spring. Now I find out I can order a 14 in March and have it before June.

I'll wait the extra couple months and have a 14 over a 13. One model year newer and possibly more features.....win win to me. Maybe they'll bring back the Harley for 14! If not it'll be a Platinum.

How can you order a 14 in march, when they just released 13's for ordering less than a month ago? Are they not planning on selling any 13's?

2013 was shown in march, but not able to be purchased until August and still not in lots yet until October 22.
