Tranny swap
Hi, new member here. I got a -98 Explorer 4.0 sohc 4wd, i wonder if i can put a tranny from a -96 Explorer in it, i know its different tranny but would it work?

The 96 will have a 4r44E, The 98 will be spinning a 4R55E, or 5R55E.... Transmission and would require a different PCM.... Philip

Ok, whats the main difference between 4r44e and 5r55e? And what is the PCM?

4sp vs 5sp, PCM= Power Control Unit (these transmissions are electronically controlled)... Philip
