4 Wheel Drive Problems !!
I'm a 1st timer here! I'm having a problem with my 1995 Bronco XLT.
It has Automatic Locking Hubs.
When it is 4WD there is an audible thumping sound, almost like someone is underneath hitting it with a "hammer". Sounds like maybe it is trying to engage but can't? Also sometimes a whining noise.....kinda like an airplane landing?
I took it to a local Goodyear shop (I know this is not there specialty).
They put it up on lift and when and put it into 4WD and front wheels did not move and there was a screeching sound.
Obviously I have not been using the 4WD drive anymore. Do I need to switch to Manual Hubs? Is it a Hub problem? How much to fix? Anybody out there ever had this problem?
Thanks,

If it is the hubs, I would definately think about switching to manuals. Much more reliable, and cheaper too.
Thanks for the help! Yes.................the driveshaft spun but wheels did not. I guess that sounds like a Hub problem. A neighbor of mine who is a "tranny" guy said it was a Hub problem also but I guess I wanted more confirmation! I will pursue the Manual Hub solution.
Thanks again!
