I've been told that a 9-inch front axle was available on 1/2 ton 4X4's in the late sixties, early seventies. is this correct? does anyone have any specific information on availability? I know they're not exactly common, but I'd like to know what to look for, as I'd like to find one. thanks!
ford never made them but several aftermarket companies did. the 9 inch has an unusually low pinion compared to any other differential (thats is why they are strong but also why they waste horsepower!) and that low pinion did not lend itself well to front end applications. hawkrod
Basically, go the Jeep store, nine inch, front end.
$1400 for a custom bolt up kit including rotors, calipers, and ball joints sounds good to me. Junk yard DANA 44/60s FOR disc brakes (noticed I did not say WITH) come close to $800-$1000. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Currie's stuff.
