Insurance companies will brag that they hurry to adjust claims while they work hard to avoid paying, in most cases. If you drove through a really deep puddle and ruined the engine it would have been fixed by now, or totaled.
It's all for the bottom line. I hope the new battery and alternator cures the problem.

Very true!

He installed the new battery and alternator and the truck is back to normal. I drove it to work today and it's just fine. Thank goodness it wasn't something more serious.

Good for you, your husband is now a certifiable DIYer. Lets hope the truck stays good for you.

Yes! He's pretty handy when it comes to fixing our trucks, but we've only had this one for 6 months, and he said he's never seen a bad alternator cause those symptoms. I guess nowadays there are just a lot more components of the vehicle tied in with the electrical system.

So now there's something new happening. Yesterday I drove the truck to work for the first time since the battery/alt replacement. Through the day I started it a total of four times with no issues at all. Then last night I got in it to go to the drugstore, and it wouldn't start. But this time, instead of nothing at all happening when I turned the key, all the appropriate lights went on and the gauges moved, but nothing happened with the engine - no clicking or ticking or cranking - nothing. My husband said this happened to him while he was in the process of fixing it the other day, and he pushed the Lock button on the remote, and then the Unlock button about three times, and then it started right up. (Not sure what made him think to do this.) This is just crazy to me! Any ideas why this might be happening and if it might be related to the recent repair?

It is most likely a dirty or loose connection between the battery and the starter or the ground. Your husband needs to go over the work he did.
He will most likely find it.
