'93 F150 4x4 Supercab, Have had popping sounds when I turn, brake, or go over bumps, for a couple of years. doesn't sound serious and does not effect the driveability. Just a nusiance. Sound like it's coming from the left front. Any Ideas?
Check back through the posts, here. Some people have posted something about the transfer case mounting rivets becoming worn out over time. They fix is to drill them out and replace them with grade 8 bolts. Is this it?, don't know. There are alot of previous posts on the site here, sometimes ya gotta dig a little. Another one is that the TTB pivot mounts need to be unbolted, and re-lubed. Try having someone walk next to the truck while you drive to try to locate/pin point the noise.
My 93 f150 flairside pops and puckers also. In my case when you have the seat all the way back it is the floor flexing from the seat being all the way back and it sure sounds like the suspention. I put the seat up one click and it went away.
I have had this problem addressed many times by Ford themselfs. The problem is that the frame flexs under different load conditions which in turn cause the huck rivets to become loose. the only fix is to drill out the rivets and replace with a grade 8 bolt or better. Most 4x4 shops can do the repair and if they drop the cross members to fix have the truck realigned.I have 161345.24 miles on my ride and the noise has been there off and on. my next project is to have all the rivets pulled out and replaced that have not been previously replace. get to know the shop that is going to do the work if you deside to have it fixxed the last shop did my truck wrong with the old blow torch on some of the rivet holes.
If your going to have the X-member out (shouldn't need to remove) go ahead and have the pan removed and have a look see at the lower end. Good time for a new oil pump. I only suggest this because it is a total PITA to pull it with the engine in.
