ok so today after fixing a problem i had from last night, i started thinking about possibly swapping out the 7.3L in my '97 f250, for somthing a little bit stronger and more reliable.
Hence. . .
Caterpillar C7.1 ACCERT diesel swap! the C7.1 is a 7L (427.7cu in.) inline 6 turbo diesel. so its about the same size and weight as the 7.3L V8 diesel.
its rated at 275hp @2200rpm, and 927lb ft @1400rpm. but i plan on upgrading this motor quite a bit. It is aftercooled already so i dont need to worry about that.
but yeah thats my idea, if you would like to see the engines dyno sheet, let me know and i can email you the entire dyno sheet, along with the info spreadsheet as well.
its actually not as big as you might think. either that or my measurments of my own trucks engine bay are waaaaaayy off!! lol.
all the engines dyno information is on that page as well.
and if this engine wont fit, the next step down would be the C6.6 ACERT. which actually would fit!
You have big dreams. I don't see how that engine will fit. The turbo will have to be moved and the oil pan will drag on the ground to get the fan in the right place.
You have the best engine in the truck now. Do some mods to it and get around 400 HP. Would be a lot cheaper.
From experience only the only CAT engine I ever seen in a truck was a CAT 3408 from a service truck, stuffed in a 77 Chevy K30, which the guy used a SAE5 spd witha dodge divroced transfercase to run his front axle. He had to put 3 inch of body lift on the truck. And the only inlines you will get to fit in out trucks are Cummins, and some Detroits (The 52 series)

I think you mean a Cat 3208, because a 3408 weighs about 3k pounds. A 3126/C7 will fit. They are actually pretty small for being a 7 litre diesel.
well i have pics on the way, because i did the swap, and it fits!!!!!!!! which was soooo cool today when we got it in!!!! but yeah i have picks on the way!!!!
Guy over in Greenville Pa has a 3-53 Detroit stuffed in a 79 Bronco. Interesting conversion. He also has a Dietz diesel stuffed in an F100. Funny seeing it run with no radiator
