Hey guys, I have a buddy that bought a 1948 F3 4x4 all original 1 owner, that's in pretty good condition, 98% rust free. But, he bought it from a family out of state (the father owned it but died several years ago) without a title. They (family) couldn't find the tiltle anywhere. So he has been trying to get a title from the DMV for about a year with no luck. According to him, he has tried about everything (legally) to get one. He has had the police do a title/vehicle search and nothing came up...? According to the family, the truck has been sitting for more than 30yrs in the garage.
Any idea's or thoughts? Obviously the truck is worth more with a good title. He has even thought of getting a title and tags from a different truck then changing them over to his, but he really doesn't wanna do that just yet since its a 1 owner truck.
Ask him if it has badges that say Marmon-Harrington on it. That would be just about the only 4x4 back then.
The seller's family should try applying for a duplicate title. If they have any old registration documents it will be far easier for them than for you. IN may not have even used titles back then.
Boy, we'd like to see pics of the truck. Probably is a M-H from the description. In Illinois we have to go the bonded title route too. I have one that I need to do that with too, but haven't gotten my butt in gear to tackle it. Another avenue is Broadway Title, but as I understand the states are making that route harder too. Stu
I will try to get some pics next week for you guys. He has asked the family to help/apply for a duplicate title but they keep saying they will and don't follow thru. He has kinda given up on them helping...? Thanks for the advise, I will let him know!!
